Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza smashes Vitor Belfort at UFC 198

Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (22-4, 1NC) and Vitor Belfort (25-11) met in a middleweight bout as the co-main event of UFC 198. One-sided and violent was the story of this fight. Souza came out and took Belfort down. He smashed his face in with strikes that busted open Belfort. Late in round one, Souza got full mount and finished the fight with strikes. After the fight, Souza said he wanted a middleweight title fight next.

Souza (23-4) is currently on a one-fight winning streak. In his last six bouts, he is 5-1. He beat Yushin Okami in September of 2013 by first round TKO, then beat Francis Carmont in February of 2014 by unanimous decision. Belfort (25-12) is on a one-fight losing streak. In his last six bouts, he is 4-2. He beat Michael Bisping in January of 2013 by second-round TKO, a first round heel kick knockout of Luke Rockhold in May of 2013 and then a first round head kick of Dan Henderson in November of 2013. He was finished in the first-round by Chris Weidman in their title fight at UFC 187. He finished Dan Henderson at UFC Fight Night 77 by first round KO. He lost to Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza at UFC 198 by first round TKO.

UFC 198 takes place on May 14th at the 40,000-seat Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil. The prelims will begin on UFC Fight Pass at 6:15 p.m. ET with four bouts. There will be another four prelim bouts that begin at 8 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1. The main card kicks off on PPV at 10 p.m. ET with five bouts.

The doctor checked on him and said that he was alright to go. Belfort scrambled and got to his feet midway through the round. Souza took him down at 1:25 and rained down strikes from half guard. Souza got full mount to finish him off with strikes.
