Dominick Cruz dominates Urijah Faber, retains bantamweight title at UFC 199

Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber met in a bantamweight title bout as the co-main event of UFC 199. A dominate fight that saw Cruz drop him on several occasions that ultimately saw him win by decision. In round 1, Cruz took him down within the first minute of the first round and Cruz got guard. Faber got to his feet, and Cruz clinches with him. Fabers’ pants fall down as they separate. Faber went for a takedown and got it, but Cruz ended up on top after a scramble. Faber got back to his feet, and Cruz presses him up against the fence. In round 2, Cruz came out and dropped him with a straight left hand. Cruz swarmed him, but Faber got back to his feet. Faber started to back pedal and went for a takedown but didn’t get it. Cruz tagged him again. In round 3, Faber was over reaching and got tagged. Cruz just missed a huge head kick. Faber started to land some combos, but Cruz was getting the better of him. In round 4, Faber was pressing forward, and Cruz was just picking him apart. Cruz was throwing a lot of shots then dropped him, but Faber got back to his feet. In round 5, Cruz kept shining in this round. Faber couldn’t get anything going. Cruz vowed in his post-fight interview that ring rust doesn’t exist, and nothing surprised him in this fight. Faber said that he has to think about his future in this sport, and he will take some time to make a decision.

Cruz (22-1) is currently on a 13-fight winning streak. In his last six bouts, he beat Scott Jorgensen at WEC 53. He made his UFC debut against Urijah Faber at UFC 132 which he won by unanimous decision. He would go on to beat Demetrious Johnson at UFC Live 6 by unanimous decision and Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 178 by first-round KO. He beat T.J. Dillashaw at UFC Fight Night 81 by split decision and Urijah Faber at UFC 199 by decision.

Faber (33-9) is currently on a one-fight losing streak. He is 3-3 in his last six bouts. He lost against Renan Barao at UFC 169 by first round TKO. He he beat Alex Caceres at UFC 175 by third round rear-naked choke and then beat Francisco Rivera at UFC 181 by second round bulldog choke. He lost to Frankie Edgar at UFC Fight Night 66 by decision but then beat Frankie Saenz at UFC 194 by decision. He lost to Domnick Cruz at UFC 199 by decision.

UFC 199 took place on June 4th at The Forum in Inglewood, Cali. The prelims started at 6:15 p.m. ET on UFC Fight Pass with four bouts while the other four prelims aired on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET. The main card aired on PPV at 10 p.m. ET.
