Dana White: ‘Miesha Tate needs a few more wins to get title shot’

During his appearance on UFC Tonight, UFC President Dana White stated that Miesha Tate needs a few more wins to earn a women’s bantamweight championship shot.

On the decision to give Holm the shot: “We had talked about that fight between Tate and Eye being the next contender fight, but when you really look at a fight, Miesha Tate has lost to her twice. She’s lost to Ronda twice. Holly Holm is 9-0 in mixed martial arts. If you look at the range, the distance, the head kicks, all the attributes…We originally brought Holly Holm into the UFC to fight Ronda Rousey. That fight makes sense. Miesha, at this point in her career, if she loses to Ronda Rousey a third time, it’s a career-killer.”

On where Tate goes from here: “I know it seems like Miesha got a bad break in this thing, but realistically when you look at it, Miesha has lost to her twice. Miesha’s going to have to knock a couple more people off to get to Ronda.”

Miesha Tate (17-5) is currently on a four-fight winning streak. In her last six bouts, she’s 4-2. She lost back-to-back fights to Cat Zingano at TUF 17 Finale by third-round TKO and then Ronda Rousey at UFC 168 by third-round armbar. She then ripped off three straight wins. She beat Liz Carmouche at UFC on Fox 11 by unanimous decision, Rin Nakai at UFC Fight Night 52 by unanimous decision and then Sara McMann at UFC 183 by majority decision. He beat Jessica Eye at UFC on Fox 16 by decision.
